The uses of crude oil fractions
The substances in crude oil can be separated using fractional distillation. The crude oil is evaporated and its vapours are allowed to condense at different temperatures in the fractionating column. One process used to refine crude oil is distillation. During the process oil is fractionated into different boiling points. Some fractions are gasoline, diesel, kerosene, and Naphtha. The majority of the use we get out of crude oil is as fuel. As shorter chain molecules are more flammable (and burn with a cleaner flame) these are in higher demand. As a result, the smaller fractions are in high demand. In fact, we cannot meet this demand through the products of fractional distillation alone. The crude oil fractions are deisel, pertol (gas), propane, butane, tar etc. These are used as fuels, in the chemical industry and in the paving of roads.
petroleum refinery. This is illustrated in Figure 8-6. Most of them are used as fuels . A small but very important fraction is used as the basis for the (petro)chemical
I am assuming that by "compound" you mean "chemical compound". If you mean something else then this is not going to satisfy. You must understand something about crude oil and that is it is impossible to identify ALL the chemical species that exist The crude petroleum oil obtained from oil field, undergoes fractional distillation and a number of products are generated. These products of fractional distillation include, petrol (or gasoline), naptha, kerosene, diesel oil, lubricating oil, fuel oil, grease and wax, and some residue. 7 Important Uses For Crude Oil And Why It Matters. The groups of oil that are removed at different levels that have similar boiling points are called; fractions. Fraction, Uses. Gases, A mixture of small hydrocarbons (
In fractional distillation, the crude oil is heated to make it vaporise. The vapour is then cooled. Different fractions of the oil are collected at different temperatures. Fractional Distillation separates crude oil into fractions containing Alkanes of similar boiling points. This is because molecules of a similar length have similar According to the Energy Information Administration, here is the breakdown of U.S. Petroleum Consumption in 2001: Gasoline (Used to fuel cars) – 44%; Heating 6 Dec 2017 In case you didn't know, crude oil is pretty important stuff! It is the main source of many of the world's organic chemicals and we use products Fractional distillation of crude oil yields a product boiling between 30°C and about The Dow process, established in 1920, uses the direct vigorous reaction of In this lesson, students learn how petroleum fractions are chemically treated in the to brainstorm ideas about how refineries make efficient use of crude oil.
