The Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) was established on 8th June, 1993 as the regulator of the country’s capital market through enactment of the Securities and Exchange Commission Act 1993. International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) elevated the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission to ‘A’ category like developed countries including USA, for undertaking above mentioned reform activities towards growth of the capital market. The Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) has 195 SEC registered trading members/brokers and the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) has 124 registered brokers. Many of these registered brokers have authorized representatives operating on the floor on behalf of The Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) is the regulator of the capital market of Bangladesh, comprising Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE). The Commission is a statutory body and attached to the Ministry of Finance.

Dr. M. Khairul Hossain is a professor of the Department of Finance at Dhaka University. Prior to joining the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission, he was the Chairman of board of directors of state owned investment organization Investment Corporation of Bangladesh (ICB) since September 2009 to May 2011.
